FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Coaching is designed to support you in becoming the best and most authentic you...in community. A coach works with you to cultivate and strengthen awareness, insights, habits, skills and practices to identify and achieve your goals in various areas of life. Whether your needs are academic, professional, or personal, you get one-on-one focus to become more effective from the "inside out". This approach is holistic and takes into account your unique life story while connecting you to universal themes for your season in life.
IS COACHING THE SAME AS THERAPY?
While coaching can be therapeutic in terms of the self-actualization it supports, it is not intended to be or replace psychotherapy or psychiatric care from a licensed professional. Coaching is not recommended if you have been diagnosed with a mental illness that significantly impairs your ability to exercise responsibility over your own life at the level of basic survival. However, I have worked with clients while they have been seeing a mental health professional. Finally, as a life-centered space of healing, Sustainable Joy takes serious the voices of those who value alternatives to the prevailing mental health field and will gladly partner with you if that is your chosen path.
WHERE DOES COACHING HAPPEN?
Coaching takes place in-person, by phone, or online.
HOW LONG DOES COACHING TAKE?
It depends on what you're looking to accomplish. Coaching takes place within scheduled sessions across a span of time. Standard sessions are 60 minutes and sometimes 90 to 120 minutes can be helpful. Depending on the individual, the duration of the coaching relationship can last for as long as it's needed. Some people find that their needs are met in just a few months. Others, often if one is taking on deeper and broader goals, maintain the coaching relationship for a few years or check back in from time to time.
